A spiritual community
Vajrapani Kadampa Buddhist Centre is a residential buddhist centre in Huddersfield. It comprises lay and ordained practitioners, trying to put Buddha’s advice into practice to solve their daily problems and to fulfill their own and others' temporary and ultimate wishes. The Centre is open to the community of Kirklees, both buddhist and non-buddhist, for teachings, private contemplation and study. Whether it’s learning to make the mind peaceful through simple breathing meditation, or for the most advanced practices of Sutra and Tantra, everyone can benefit from visiting this special tranquil place.
Study and pujas
The Centre offers three teaching programmes to suit all levels of interest and ability: the General Programme, which is open to everybody and covers basic buddhist view and practices, usually operated on a drop-in basis; and the Foundation Programme and Teacher Training Programme which offer more in-depth and systematic study of key texts of Sutra and Tantra. There are also many special events held at the Centre, generally open to everybody, such as empowerments and day courses.
There are daily pujas held at the Centre, and regular bi-weekly and monthly pujas. A puja is a chanted meditation and is a special method of purifying our mind and fulfilling our wishes.
Coffee and cake
The Centre is host to Huddersfield’s World Peace Café, part of a global network of cafés dedicated to World Peace. The Café is open on Saturdays and Sundays and offers a selection of hot and cold drinks, hot food and delicious homemade cakes. If you wish whilst at the Centre, one of the residents will give you a tour of our beautiful building.
